Budget travel around Australia East Coast
There are many ways to save money to budget travel the east coast of Australia. I will show main forms of Australian dollars you can save on accommodation, shopping, transportation and more so you can return home with more memories and more happy memories without an empty wallet. I lived in Sydney and Brisbane and other cities and many quotes on the east coast, I hope my experience will save you money!
money in Australia
Money in Australia called the Australian dollar. We have $ 100, $ 50, $ 20, $ 10 and $ 5 bills and $ 2, $ 1, .50 percent 0.20 percent percent, 0.10 and 5 cents. Many stores will charge for some items such as AU $ 10.99 for a product, for purposes of marketing, but in the end have to pay AU $ 11.00. capital cities usually costs more in rural areas, but sometimes the reverse. For example, the fuel can be more expensive in areas rural, but not by much. The following list is an average estimate of the prices charged in Australia, known as a guide only. Everything is based on 33 years Experience …
Accommodation
Budget tip: Using the Internet to find bargains and save a lot of money. Some my favorite sites found on the links page. If you are traveling on a budget then I suggest staying in shelters or caravans. They vary in price according to the quality and location. A word of warning caravans especially along the coast are not what they used to be. Today they almost resort-style facilities for which can be as expensive as staying in a motel.
Getting around
By air: Australia has 4 major companies carriers to choose from: Qantas: Generally, the most expensive VirginBlue: basic service at lower prices JetStar: Similar to VirginBlue TigerAirways: No service low cost and simple. Some of these are not flying to certain parts of the country you need to do your homework.
Public transport
A great way to save money on a tight budget. QR Queensland Rail or mainly covers the south-east Queensland (Brisbane, Ipswich, Costa Dorada and the Costa del Sol) now offers a GoCard which is valid for the train, bus and ferry services mainly in Brisbane. It's cheaper than paying cash. I am a big fan of getting the train the city. It is convenient, safe and cheap. You can also buy daily, weekly or monthly passes QR. The more time passes, the more money you save. QR also offers concessions for pensioners and students. City Rail (New South Wales): covers Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle and Central Coast): Has a lot of different inputs to save money.
CityRail me all the time when I was living in Sydney. Sometimes the trains late, but mostly it is a good reliable service. For Sunday Funday families see happen today (2009) will pay only $ 2.50 per person you only need a minimum of one adult and one child. City also train other Cityhopper offers discount tickets (for Syndey only), Day Tripper and Sydneypass (Sydney for 3, 5 or 7 days within a period of 8 days) brings you unlimited train, bus and ferry around Sydney. Concessions are available for students and seniors.
How or from International Airports
Avoid taxis. These will cost a small fortune, mainly due to traffic congestion. Price a ticket from National Airport to the city is $ 14.60 and from the International Airport of the City $ 15.20. And sometimes the drivers are lost.
SUPER SUPPORT BUDGET:
Instead consider the airport shuttle services. Do a search on Google for transfers from the airport of the city that are landing in. For example, "the airport shuttle to Sydney Airport. Sydney, New South Wales: In general, price range for shuttle services will be refunded $ 20 CBD for more places, but it may be cheaper if you book online. Brisbane, Queensland: Transfer to the airport by train. These are private companies not usually offer concessions. They are a great way to save money however. Brisbane Airtrain: This is a train service that takes you from Brisbane International or Brisbane Domestic Terminal, Brisbane areas suburban and Gold Coast. Price should not be more than $ 30 for most destinations. View interactive Airtrain sheet on its website to give you an idea of Link Sydney Airport: Similar to Brisbane. Since 2009 is a ticket to the terminal CBD national or international airport will be a little less than $ 20. View section FAQ on their website for details.
Hiring a car
East Coast of Australia has all the main companies rent from Hertz, Budget, Avis and independents who may be better to travel budget. There are all kinds of cars and vans to choose, the bigger the car the more you pay. Are a few websites out there that allow you to compare car hire prices. Using them will save you money! If you are going to be here a little longer to consider hiring a van. There are plenty of options for you. In Queensland a popular choice is naughty. In NSW have deposits in Sydney and Byron Bay. In Your deposits are in Queensland Brisbane, Cairns and Hervey Bay.
Food Shopping
Shopping Australia is dominated by two major 'players' in the market namely, Woolworths and Coles. If you spend over a certain amount of its sales record will give you cheaper fuel (See below) will find Woolworths and Coles in most major cities and are, of course, in each capital city. Today, "price unit weight "to use tickets so you can compare and save while browsing the shelves. Australia also has Aldi stores in most cities of the region and the capital all cities along the east coast of Australia. These are my favorite shopping budget especially if you are traveling and only need the elements basic on the road.
SUPER BUDGET TIP:
cheaper items are usually below the level eye. That is the right of the more expensive items will be on the shelves means, to look down and grab a bargain. In Australia generic brands, such as home Brand, Black and Gold and Woolworths and Coles own varieties are as good as the value of the bigger name brands. Aldi are cheaper than Woolworths and Coles and the quality is as good. That although you have to take their own bags to pack your items or buy bags at Aldi. There are other supermarkets in Australia, as Foodowrks and AIG and they are great if you only need a few items in your trip.
Fuel (gas)
We call a service station station service. Australia has all the major fuel companies available (BP, Caltex, Ampol, Shell etc). Some 4c offer out of fuel if you presents a record of supermarkets. Woolworths Caltex and Shell accepts files Coles accepts files. I recommend using these, especially if you are making the most of your drive. Fuel prices go up and down through the week. anecdotal research indicates that the cheapest days to buy fuel is now or a Tuesday or Wednesday. To save fuel on the disk without problems, limit the use of air conditioner and no speed, chews fuel (and is also dangerous!) A special word of stops at service stations: All stations want you to buy something else while you're in the shop, as drinks, chocolates, candies, CD, etc. Avoid the temptation, as you will be paying high prices to do so. Instead plan your trip by buying drinks and food a supermarket for your trip. Some stations even offer 4c out of fuel if you buy two dollars worth of food. This means they are in worse then if you do not buy food or drinks. Do not be fooled!
Phone calls
Cell phones are called 'mobile' phones in Australia. Avoid using your mobile (cellular) phones. International roaming rates sting YOU.Of course mobile phones are useful for emergencies. cheapest option with a budget to save money when traveling is the use of phone cards international. With a card of 10 AUD, you can talk to the U.S. more than 2 hours. Note that you do a lot of shorter calls costing more than 1 and call. For example, 6 calls of 10 minutes will cost you more than one call an hour. There are a lot of phone cards available. For example: Ozcall, Dawn and Gotalk. There are also plenty of online sites to compare prices, just do a Google search, such as Australia International phone cards. You Cards can be purchased at newsstands or online, and for a range of prices. To make it easy, but buying in equal amounts of AUD 10, 20 and use AUD from AUD50 your home phone and public phones.
Food and beverages.
Many outside food and alcohol consumption can be very expensive. Depending on the beer bar or restaurant can cost from AUD 2.50 to 7.00 AUD.
SUPER SUPPORT BUDGET:
Glass size will determine the price. Beer names given to different sizes of beer glass varies from city to city in Australia and generally from state to state. For example asking a schooner in most bars Victorian or Western Australia will earn you a confused look or upset, because that size does not serve. Request a 'Beer' in Victoria will give you a 285ml (10 oz) 'Pot' but if you said the same thing in a pub in Queensland you may encounter a small 200ml (7 oz) glass. In other words, a mixture (in Queensland) is the same as a Middie (in NSW) and is usually a comfortable size to enjoy a beer. A schooner is bigger and a pint is bigger again. A pitcher of beer (literally, a mug of beer) is 1140ml or 40 oz is the largest of all. Care, however, is not intended to drink from the jug, pour into a pan (Middie) and enjoy! Application of spirits (rum, whiskey, vodka, etc) in a bar which would normally cost around AUD 7.
SUPER BUDGET TIP:
One way to save is to buy alcohol in a store bottle. There are "large areas" as big as LiquorChoice and Dan Murphy in all regional capitals and some cities. A six-pack of local beer (XXXX, Tooheys, waterfall etc) will be between $ 12 to over $ 20. A carton of beer has 24 cans or stubbies (small bottles). local beer will set a copy of any somewhere between AUD 35 to AUD 65.
Wine
Australia has some of the best wines in the world and I highly recommend you try some time you're here. Prices vary but you can usually have a "good drop" for about 15 AUD.
SUPER BUDGET TIP:
Look for the "clean skins", which are unmarked bottles. Some have labels that some do not, but they are often at bargain bin, but can no surprises tasty. 'Clean skin' to cost around AUD 7.
Eating out
Australia has all the major food chains McDonald's, KFC, Hungry Jacks Wine Australia has some of the best wines in the world and I recommend that you try some time here. Prices vary but you can usually have a "good drop" for about 15 AUD. I especially like the light variety of Moscato. It will give you a hangover will not dent the budget. Subway franchises pizza and numerous: To stay healthy on a budget Metro is a good choice. They offer special rates for certain subs on each day of the week. Some outlets like dominoes pizza offer discounts on a Tuesday.
SUPER BUDGET TIP:
For budget travelers (backpackers and families), the best option is: buy groceries, including cheese, ham and chicken and make sandwiches to pack for the trip. Also consider 'popper' buy packages, which are little square packages of juices that usually come in packs of 6. Australians love their food bar and I highly recommend them. Which can be costly, however, expect to pay from AUD 15 upwards.Smokers Best quit smoking, as a package will cost around AUD 15 per a packet of 20 cigarettes. Some states in Australia also have strict laws on where smoking is allowed. Queensland is probably the toughest laws of all with banned smoking in public places indoors and outdoors. Queensland also just introduced a new law banning smoking in cars when children under 16 years in the car as well. Fine is $ 200 on the spot!
Entertainment
Movies (Cinema): Go on a Tuesday, tickets are cheaper. DVD: Once again, buy a Tuesday. Many newspapers offer reduced prices on this day for any reason. free entertainment for children: Kids love the beaches and there are plenty throughout Eastern Australia. Keep children entertained for free by stopping off at a few. Children also love parks, and parents love them because they are free. Why not stop at the large parks, often near beaches. The playground equipment is tested to the highest safety standards so you can be sure that children can play hard and then rest hard!
Summary
There are many ways to ways to save a lot of money when traveling in Australia on a budget. My best advice is to plan ahead. That does not mean a regulated pathway, but only some estimates, such as picking up some food at the grocery store is scheduled morning departure. My suggestion is that other super budget and add at least 20% of that. The one thing I learned in my travels is that despite all my good intentions and strategies I have always gone over budget. Hopefully if I I have some tools and tips that mean you keep more of your hard earned money in your pocket and leave the East Coast of Australia with a lot of good memories!
